Piyapong Muenprasertdee — Musikator podcast Ep 001, music policy advocate, Thailand

Piyapong Muenprasertdee a.k.a. Py, got into music through Nirvana’s “Heart-Shaped Box.” He picked up the guitar. He grew up moving between countries, which meant he was absorbing a lot of different music at once.

He ended up in policy. He’s on the Subcommittee on Music under Thailand’s National Soft Power Committee, working on funding and infrastructure for independent artists. He also works with Fungjai, a Thai indie music platform founded by Sarun Pinyarat.

He’s been open about living with mental illness, and has pushed for mental health support inside the music community. That thread runs through a lot of what he does — how he thinks about what artists actually need, beyond just exposure.

The events he’s involved in: Bangkok Music City, Axean Festival, various showcases — are mostly about getting Thai bands outside Thailand.
